Three horizontal lines stacked on top of each other is now quickly becoming the universal symbol for navbar. To see what I mean, just check out http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/ and drag to make the browser fairly narrow. You will soon see the ‘navicon’. If you click it, it will show you the navication in a drop down menu. This is to make your site more user friendly on a mobile device.

  1. I was wondering if this was becoming a “thing.” I’ve seen it on a few other sites and I’ve been thinking about using it myself for my own website. Seems like a good solution for the mobile platform.

    1. I think it is a good thing. We are always trying to find ways to make our sites more user friendly but we always have to use our common sense. Navigation is essential to any site so I think having a navicon symbol is smart. It does remind me of the Black Flag logo a bit (turned on its side and missing a bar) but I think adding it to your sites will cause more good than harm.
