CSS is getting Religious with BLESS

Once again IE tries to trip us up.

How you ask?

IE versions 6, 7, 8 & 9 all have a limit on the number of selectors allowed in a single CSS file. Once the limit is reached, IE silently fails and just ignores any further CSS in the file leaving parts of your site totally unstyled.

File size, number of lines or amount of whitespace are irrelevant. Minifying CSS will not help you here.

Rather than cry about yet another IE bug, it’s time to BLESS yourself. No, you don’t need to buy a set of rosaries, you just need to use BLESS.

Note: BLESS is built into CodeKit.

  1. Wow! This makes me wonder how many sites I’ve created in the past (and will create in the future) have (and will be) been destroyed by IE. The article is a wonderful read. I’ll be practicing “bless*ings” on my sites from now on. Thanks, great read.
