Show hidden files on your Mac

Why can’t I see my .htaccess (or any file that begins with a dot (.)? Because they are hidden.

Here’s house you can unhide them

Open the Terminal and type this:
[prettify]
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
[/prettify]

You won’t see the changes unless you kill the Finder and then relaunch it.

Here’s how to kill the Finder

[prettify]
killall Finder
[/prettify]

Hide the files again with:

[prettify]
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
[/prettify]

If you want to quickly view hidden files (while in the save dialog box) use this shortcut

Command + Shift + .

If you are in the Terminal type this to quickly view the hidden files:

[prettify]
ls -a
[/prettify]

That’s how easy it it to start seeing the hidden files. Enjoy.
